How to submit a competitive ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë UK Postgraduate application

Interested in applying for a ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë UK Postgraduate Award to the USA? Review our advice below for creating a competitive application. We’ll be delving into more detail on the 14th of March at 6 PM GMT—so mark your calendars and bring your questions about the application process.

Make sure you have read and understood the eligibility criteria and application instructions, and that you submit any additional required forms.

Aside from the application form, you’ll need to send a supplemental form to us, and if applicable, a 2:2 result form.

The supplemental form provides additional details about your background, academic interests, and goals. It is crucial to fill this out accurately and thoughtfully, as it gives our team more context about you.

If your undergraduate degree classification falls within a 2:2, you will need to submit a 2:2 Result Form. This form further outlines how you would be competitive in the ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë awards programme.

Ensure that these form are submitted on time to ensure that we’re able to consider your application.

Familiarise yourself with IIE and Independent Placement Models and choose a model based on your preferences.

You can choose between two placement types for our ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë Postgraduate Awards: the IIE Placement Model, or the Independent Placement Model.

The IIE Placement Model is for students who are willing to approach finding a university with flexibility. If successful at the interview stage, an educational advisor at the IIE will help find the best academic and funding fit for you. Your ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë application will be submitted to those universities for consideration, and the IIE will cover the costs of admission and admission tests.

If you’re applying through the IIE Placement Model, make sure to communicate the model is a good fit for you in your application. This is an opportunity to demonstrate your adaptability and eagerness to collaborate with US universities in an open-ended way.

The Independent Placement Model is for students who already have a clear idea of the institution they would like to attend and are confident about their choice. If applying through this model, you’ll need to provide details of your chosen US university in your application and explain why it is the ideal environment for your academic and professional goals.

If you are applying through the Independent Placement Model or for an institution-specific award, be specific about why you have chosen your host institution. What makes it the best place for you to achieve your academic goals? How will this university help you make a meaningful contribution to your field?

Not quite sure which model is right for you? Check out our FAQs to help you make an informed decision.

Highlight your interest in the US and why ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë is the best avenue for you.

ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë is more than academic funding – it’s a platform for engaging with a global community, fostering cultural exchange, and promoting mutual understanding. It offers you the opportunity to not just pursue your academic and professional aspirations in the US, but to become a cultural ambassador and a catalyst for international dialogue.

Competitive applications come from those who are committed to building cross-cultural relationships and using their experiences to create positive change back home or internationally. Think about how your perspectives and experiences can enrich the ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë community and how you can meaningfully engage with US students, professors, and communities.

It’s also important to connect your academic goals with the larger mission of ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë. What specific research, projects, or activities will you pursue while in the US, and how will these activities help you build connections that will benefit both the UK and the US? Make sure to describe how you will actively contribute to fostering international understanding.

Ask questions!

On 14 March, our Awards team will be hosting a webinar on how to submit a competitive application, complete with a Q&A session at the end. This is an excellent opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the application process. We encourage you to participate, but if you can't make it, feel free to email us your questions at programmes@fulbright.org.uk.

Additionally, if you’d like to connect with ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë alumni who have successfully submitted applications, we invite you to chat with them here. Our alumni ambassadors can provide valuable insights and advice on how to approach your application with confidence.

We wish you the best of luck with your application and look forward to learning about your interest in a ÈËÆÞÎÞÂë Award!
